About This Project

Located at the corner of Waterfront Drive and James Avenue in the heritage-protected James Avenue Pumping Station, the Pumphouse is the second of two upscale casual restaurants completed by ARCCADD in Winnipeg’s East Exchange. Throughout the re-envisioned interior space, heritage elements are integrated with modern, giving guests an experience unlike any other in the province. This includes:

  • focusing the dining room inward to optimize the view of the building and original 1906 pumps.
  • designing custom upholstery for banquettes and chairs, styled after turn of the century fire trucks.
  • integrating objects of cultural and historic importance, including a large collection of antique fire hydrants, into the public areas.

As well, working directly with the City of Winnipeg’s heritage planner, sensitive solutions for exterior building lighting and signage were developed.

Project Size: 4,000 sq ft, 100 seat dining room + 30 seat patio
